South Dakota Football Ranked No. 3 in Coaches Preseason Poll
Record-breaking Season Sets High Expectations for Coyotes
Vermillion, S.D. –
The University of South Dakota football team has been ranked No. 3 in the 2023 STATS FCS Preseason Coaches Poll, released on Monday, July 24. The Coyotes, who went 11-2 last season and advanced to the FCS quarterfinals, received 254 points in the poll, just 18 points behind No. 2 Montana. USD is looking to build on its success from last season, when it won a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference championship and reached the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2009. Leading the way for the Coyotes will be senior quarterback Carson Camp, who passed for 3,382 yards and 26 touchdowns last season. In addition to Camp, the Coyotes return a number of other key players, including running back Travis Theis, wide receiver Wesley Eliodor, and defensive end Adam Bock, who was named a preseason All-American by HERO Sports. The Coyotes open the 2023 season on Thursday, Aug. 31, when they host the Montana Grizzlies in a rematch of last year's FCS quarterfinal game.
