USGS Response and Findings After the M6.4 on July 4 and M7.1 on July 6, 2019, in Searles Valley, Southern California

A M6.4 earthquake hit Southern California about 150 miles from Los Angeles on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

More than 47,000 people in southern California and as far away as northern California and Nevada reported feeling the quake, which struck at 10:34 a.m. local time on July 4, 2019.

The earthquake was followed by a series of aftershocks, including a M7.1 earthquake that struck at 3:19 a.m. local time on July 5, 2019.

The USGS has been responding to the earthquakes and conducting field investigations. The agency has deployed a team of scientists and engineers to the area to collect data and assess the damage.
