Ukraine and France Sign Security Pact
Zelensky and Macron Meet in Paris
Pact Includes Arms and Training Commitments
French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a security pact in Paris on Friday. The 10-year agreement includes commitments by Paris to deliver more arms and provide training to Ukraine's military.
The pact is part of France's ongoing effort to support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. France has already provided Ukraine with significant military aid, including anti-tank missiles and air defense systems.
The signing of the pact comes as Ukraine continues to face challenges in the east of the country, where Russian-backed separatists have been fighting for control since 2014. The conflict has killed more than 14,000 people and displaced millions more.
France and its European partners have called on Russia to end its support for the separatists and to withdraw its troops from Ukraine's borders. The security pact is seen as a way to strengthen Ukraine's defenses and deter further Russian aggression.
